Child Friendly

The RRCAC is located in a professional, comfortable, facility. Special care has been taken to create a child-friendly environment. The center accommodates the members of the multidisciplinary team, ensures a safe atmosphere for children and families, houses administrative and program offices, and offers a one location setting to better serve victims and families. Many of the comforts found at the center have been contributed by donors from caring individuals and communities.

Teamwork Required

The assessment of child abuse-and the treatment of its victims- is complicated and challenging. Rural areas are often faced with limited resources. Urban areas, while benefiting from more plentiful services, have historically found it difficult to coordinate the assessment of physical and sexual abuse across law enforcement, social services and medical settings. As a result, cases of child abuse might be missed and can be more difficult to successfully prosecute.
Modeled after hundreds of similar community centers across the nation, the RRCAC centrally locates the efforts of social services, law enforcement, prosecutors, family advocates, medical and mental health professionals. Law Enforcement or Social Services agencies initiate RRCAC referrals after a report of suspected abuse has been received.
The goals of the RRCAC include streamlining the assessment of child abuse, facilitating timely communication among team members, bolstering legal strategies, improving prosecution rates, and closely monitoring follow up treatment. The RRCAC seeks to promote the best possible outcome in cases that are often tragic and heartbreaking.
